I recently visited Paphos Zoo, expecting to find a sanctuary where animals are well-cared for and rehabilitated. Instead, what I witnessed was heartbreaking and disturbing. Animals languishing in tiny cages, malnourished and clearly bored, with little to no stimulation or care. The sight was so distressing that I was moved to tears.

This situation reflects a blatant disregard for animal rights and welfare. The animals at Paphos Zoo are being exploited, their basic needs unmet, and it is nothing short of inhumane. The zoo promotes itself as a place of conservation and education, yet it fails to meet even the basic standards of animal care.

The distress and neglect witnessed at the Paphos Zoo cannot and should not be tolerated. As a community that values compassion, we must demand action. It is essential that the government of Cyprus hears our voices and understands the urgency of this situation.

We call upon the government of Cyprus to take a decisive stand against animal cruelty by shutting down Paphos Zoo. The animals currently held within its confines deserve a better life, one where they are respected and treated with dignity. There are numerous wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centers that can provide the animals with the care and environment they desperately need.

This change is not only necessary but also aligns with global standards for animal rights and welfare. By closing this zoo, Cyprus can demonstrate a commitment to ethical treatment of animals and set an exemplary standard that others can follow.
