The Issue

Shelby Charter Township, MI has at least sixty (60) Flock Safety  warrant-less mass surveillance cameras. These cameras were installed without our consent. They spy on us 24/7. As of August 2026, our Township shares its data with over two-thousand and six-hundred (2,606) law enforcement organizations. It's the 250th anniversary of our nation, this is a slap in our face.

Quotes from our Local Government

  1. "These are not cameras, they are license plate readers." -Supervisor Rich Stathakis, Tues Apr 17th, 2026.
    > WRONG. These are cameras. They take photos/video every time a vehicle or person passes its view. Do Flock cameras squint their eyes so they ONLY see a license plate? Doesn't seem likely!
  2. "Kids aren't license plates!"  -Supervisor Rich Stathakis, Tues Aug 18th, 2026.
    > See above (quote #1).
  3. "We do not have the man-power to watch all cameras at all times."  -Police Sgt Johnson or Police Capt., Tues Aug 18th, 2026.
    > What are Artificial Intelligence, Data Centers, and Big Data. Do the Police not understand this? . . .
    > If you do not understand, here's a quick run-down:
    1. Many cameras take video, video is sent over Internet to data center(s).
    2. Data centers run Artificial Intelligence, which makes sense of data.
    3. Data is then sent back to Police Department.
    4. Data is also shared with the 2,606 other law enforcement organizations whom it shares with.

We the People demand:

  1. the immediate removal of all Flock Safety cameras within Shelby Twp.
  2. the immediate cancellation of all Flock Safety contracts for Shelby Twp.
  3. no future contracts with other vendors for surveillance of any kind, including but not limited to: Avigilon, Axon, Genetec, Motorola, Rekor, Verkada . . .
