I was the Liberal Democrat Cabinet Member for Transportation when we secured the funding and got the go-ahead for the A6 - Manchester Airport section of the road. I am councillor for Cheadle & Gatley.

We need this additional section to complete the road as it was always planned - from the M60 at Bredbury right across to the M56. It is one of the key transport projects for Stockport over the coming years.

The bypass will reduce traffic jams, reduce air pollution in Hazel Grove and other built-up areas, and boost our area's economy, creating more jobs.

While new roads clearly have an environmental effect, any new road development must not just mitigate against environmental harm, but must improve the environment so that - overall - we end up a better environment than when we started.
