The Issue

Punch is a small monkey with a heart-wrenching story. Rejected by his mother at birth, he was sent to a zoo in Japan where he is kept with numerous other monkeys. The environment he lives in is far from ideal—an enclosure dominated by cold concrete without a blade of grass or anything suitable to climb. In such a restricted setting, Punch is deprived of basic natural enrichments crucial for any monkey's well-being.

More heart-breaking still, Punch seeks comfort in a stuffed animal, his substitute mother. This stuffed toy is perhaps the only semblance of love and comfort he has in his enclosure. With no natural stimuli around, Punch dreams of companionship and affection, yet he is met with aggression. The other monkeys frequently attack and injure him, leaving him isolated and in constant distress.

Punch's situation is a glaring example of neglect and highlights the urgent need for reform in captive animal care. Australia's National Zoo and Aquarium enclosures, for example, provide enriched environments that allow animals to engage in natural behaviors. Punch deserves the same chance at a fulfilled life.

Rehabilitation and relocation to a more suitable sanctuary can save Punch. Wildlife rescue organizations often step up to relocate animals in distress to more appropriate environments. A sanctuary specializing in primate care can offer Punch the interactive and secure habitat that he desperately needs.

It's vital that we act now to ensure Punch has a future of joy and care. Please sign this petition to urge the authorities to release Punch from his current predicament and transfer him to a sanctuary that will provide the environment he truly deserves. Together, we can change Punch’s life for the better and give him a chance to experience love and security. Let's give Punch the life he deserves!
