In 2024, the Oxford Board of Aldermen unanimously approved a contract to place mass surveillance cameras throughout the city to track license plate numbers, unique vehicle identifiers, pedestrians, cyclists, and more. Police claim that the cameras will help promote safety throughout the city. Yet, the complicated, dangerous history of the Flock surveillance Company shows that these cameras are nothing but a ploy to bring mass surveillance to the United States. Take action! What Flock Does
Flock cameras are solar-powered cameras stationed in strategic areas that use AI to monitor traffic. In real time, it cross-references YOUR data with law enforcement databases and sends alerts to law enforcement. However, the opportunity for misuse in this database is extremely strong, as law enforcement is able to access live footage at any time, across state lines. These cameras track your personal information in an Amazon Web Services cloud database. The captures of these cameras are meant to be deleted every 30 days, but police are allowed to download data, and Flock is allowed to use this sensitive information for ANY purpose they deem necessary.
Flock’s CRIMINAL History
In their short history, Flock cameras have been criminally abused by law enforcement. In Kansas, a law enforcement officer accessed and used the database to stalk his ex-girlfriend. In Ohio, the system misread a license plate, which led to the detention of an innocent man. Across the country, law enforcement agencies have used Flock cameras to track people who attend protests and store their information for future surveillance. Over 30 US cities have now cancelled their contracts with Flock, after CONSTITUTIONAL CONCERNS were raised about Flock cameras. While on the road, you do not legally have a “reasonable expectation of privacy”, but the gigantic network of over 100,000 Flock cameras can effectively trace your every move, all without a warrant.
