Get IMAX to build a 1.43:1 screen in Wales

Get IMAX to build a 1.43:1 screen in Wales
The Issue
On June 24th 2025, I went all the way to the BFI IMAX in London to go see “Sinners”, and I loved it. Not only was it the first time I saw the movie, but the first time I’ve ever been to an IMAX cinema in my entire life (specifically a 15 perf 70mm one).
This specific cinema is one of the only IMAX cinemas in the whole United Kingdom to have a 1.43:1 aspect ratio.
Others include one in Manchester (albeit a GT dual laser instead), and the British Science Museum for documentaries.
The reason for this petition being made is because at home, you are missing out on a lot of picture because it is sadly cropped to widescreen.
Meaning that if you live in the UK, you have to go all the way to England just to see the fullscreen version of movie that was shot with IMAX film cameras. The only IMAX projector in Wales is the digital IMAX with laser venue at the Odeon cinema in Cardiff, and therefore the aspect ratio is capped at 1.90:1. Many people have dubbed this as LieMAX, and I agree with that statement. 1.43:1 is the way to go for IMAX because they stand out more when it comes to rectifying the old square format from the olden days and bringing it into the modern world.
I’m from Wales and I can’t reasonably afford to travel all the way to England just to see the original uncropped negative of a movie. So here’s what you can do about it.
Sign this petition to let the people at IMAX know that we want a 4:3 screen in Wales. I wouldn’t mind whether it’ll be a GT dual laser or 15 perf 70mm projector, as long as it is 1.43:1 support I’ll be happy.
Now, if there are financial problems such as building regulations and equipment maintenance preventing this from becoming a reality, that makes sense. But I would appreciate it if the company at least gives it a try.
I want to see more movies that were shot on IMAX film, but only in it’s original 1.43:1 format. Movies like The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Tenet, Oppenheimer, Dune: Parts 1&2, Sinners, and many more.
