I used TikTok as a means of escape and relaxation, posting content that matched my personality and humor. This harmless enjoyment was hindered when my account was suddenly banned for posting a photo deemed 'inappropriate,' even though it was just a playful, harmless picture. This has led to unavoidable sadness, as I am unable to unwind as before in my preferred digital space - TikTok.

TikTok has proven to be an essential outlet for millions of its users, with Statista revealing that the platform has about 1 billion active users worldwide as of 2020. This means that crucially, my story is far from unique - there are potentially millions of us who have been unjustly banned from the platform, each of us individually affected by the freedom we've lost to express, create, and unwind.

But this goes beyond just me and the others affected. This is about a system in need of reforms. TikTok's current rules and regulations, as well as its banning process, need more transparency and an appeal process for those who feel they have been wrongly banned.

We ask TikTok to review their existing banning policies, implement a clear appeal process, and reinstate the accounts of those unjustly banned.
