Get Flock cameras off ASU

Get Flock cameras off ASU
The Issue
ASU's current contract with Flock security allows for Flock's ALPRs (AI License Plate Readers) to be located on campuses and connected to the wider security network at ASU. These cameras track vehicles whether the driver is innocent or not collecting identifying information such as license plate, make and model, color, and dents then allow for any vehicle tagged in the system to be tracked without a warrant.
The data from these cameras is connected to a larger 3rd party database that other parties who have contracts with Flock can access. Reports from 404 media and ACLU show Flock databases being used for information to aid ICE in deportations and searches being made to locate protesters. These cameras also pose data privacy risks due to being connected to such a large network that has a history of subpar security.
We demand ASU remove these cameras in order to keep students and faculty safe from their data being used in larger abuses of power and privacy risks.
