Germantown Municipal School Board, During a recent board meeting, I seem to recall a comment about future school board deliberations on school start times will occur on 12/5/14. Since that is today, I wanted to bring to your attention a recent petition I started about the topic: https://www.change.org/p/germantown-tn-municipal-school-parents-sign-this-petition-prior-to-december-3-2014-instructing-the-germantown-municipal-school-board-to-start-germantown-municipal-schools-no-earlier-than-8am As you will notice when you visit the petition, over 350 Germantown parents have signed it indicating their preference for later school start times. This strong response further supports the board's own survey results indicating that most Germantown parents (7 of 10) want a later school start time. Moreover, many parents, including myself, stated at the last board meeting that we would be willing to assist the school board in discussing funding with Alderman, or other tasks asked of us. To date, I am unaware of any assistance requested by the school board of parents. Finally, I want to emphasize that parent's want and expect school start times to be moved later beginning in Fall, 2015. Any delays will be met with anger and skepticism, especially since no assistance has been asked of any parent beyond allowing them to speak for 3 minutes at a board meeting. Considering the passion and commitment shown by parents at the last school board meeting, you as our elected officials would do well to be reminded that you do our bidding. You serve us. And our wishes in this issue are clear. Thank you, Paul S. Leonard
