No New Cities in DeKalb This Year.
The Greenhaven opposition started in August 2014. Citizens Against Cityhood in DeKalb believe that residents deserve a more deliberate process; and that the state legislature needs to make changes to the cityhood and annexation process. We should have some say at the front end of the process as to whether communities are included in a new city boundary. The fight is not over. There are enough work and credit to go around.
At one time, the proposed city of Greenhaven was proposed to be called the City of South DeKalb. The Greenhaven, Stonecrest, Tucker, LaVista Hills opposition did not start in 2016. It started in 2014 with the two main groups Citizens Against Cityhood in DeKalb and DeKalb Strong. Now there are others who have formed opposition groups CCIOG, and NAG . There were other groups like Save Tucker and Stop LaVista Hills. The cityhood movement in DeKalb was not started by Kathy Rice, there was a proposal in 2012 to create the City of DeKalb. Which would have included all of South DeKalb, Tucker, and LaVista Hills. The City of Dunwoody was created in 2008, Brookhaven in 2012. Tucker in 2016, and Stonecrest in 2017
