We as residents of Beacon Hill have noticed in the last several years that power failures occur more often here and longer than elsewhere and it’s affecting a lot of people in the neighborhood.  There have been multiple failures per year lasting more than a day.  The Beacon Hill area around the school is always one of the first areas to go down and one of the last to be restored.  In contrast, the areas around Alton Pl, Amherst and Sutton Place rarely, if ever, lose power.

In light of the current epidemic of COVID-19, we would like to avoid a situation this winter where prolonged power failures force residents into communal shelters to stay warm. The time to act is now before winter arrives.

We would like to ask the municipality to work with Hydro Quebec to conduct a comprehensive review of the power distribution grid in Beacon Hill and perform preventative tree trimming and maintenance. We are calling upon our city councillor to raise this issue in order to have the City of Beaconsfield stand behind the residents to improve the situation before the cold weather arrives.
