Hello all 320,088 of you!!!
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL! To celebrate, we are SO EXCITED to launch our new website project ‘Period Watch’ (http://www.periodwatch.org/) designed to smash taboos that have held women back for generations, but WE NEED YOUR HELP to make it a success!
ACTION: PLEASE EMAIL US YOUR PERIOD STORIES to help us smash the period taboo for good and BE A HERO! Email us at lauracoryton@hotmail.co.uk and see your stories on our live stigma-fighting ‘Period Blog’ (linked here: http://www.periodwatch.org/period-blog )
Purpose of our new 'Period Watch' website:
The Government has announced that we may be waiting a further two years for the axe of tampon tax. That sucks. But we’re on it! And we are watching! We have created a new website to monitor the Government's tampon-tax-ending activities, stamp out the period taboo for good and reach some important goals in the meantime:
1) smash the period taboo by sharing period/tampon tax stories on a mass period blog.
2) (a project coming soon) raise donations of reusable sanitary products for refugees in Greece.
if we have to wait two years we may as well kick ass doing so. am i right?
The idea behind the Period Blog:
Why is it bad that women can't talk about their own bodies? (although I'm thinking the question might answer itself here) well, there are lots of reasons. Firstly, because nobody should feel embarrassed or unable to express their own body. That's not healthy for anyone. Secondly, because not talking about periods has alienated women from the political world, slowed innovation within the menstrual world and lowered donations to charities such as the Eve Appeal that specialise in treating female genital illnesses and conditions, like gynaecological cancer. Yep. It's not just annoying, it's actually really important. So join us by emailing your period stories to lauracoryton@hotmail.co.uk, support our Period Blog and help to smash the period taboo. Period. Did I say ‘period’?
Looking forward to making some serious changes together over the next few years!
