Tell NCC and the State of DE Government: Don’t Allow the Destruction of Ogletown Pond!

The Issue

Subject: Ogletown Pond/Woods is a Unique and Critical Wildlife Environment and Should Be a Protected Space!

The time is now to preserve in perpetuity the remaining forested parcels of land such as Ogletown Pond Woods. Once it is developed it will be lost forever. I urge New Castle County and the State of Delaware to intervene immediately and purchase this land from the Felician Sisters. Doing so will provide a unique opportunity for County and State governments to work together to protect and preserve this special area; creating a County/State Park partnership that will provide a wonderful experience to area landowners and visitors showcasing our unique and distinct forest and wildlife habitats.

The Christina Watershed is already severely imperiled due to a high percentage of impervious cover and any reservoirs of forestland- especially at such a size as this site- should be protected in perpetuity. Development of this area would severely damage or destroy this critical habitat and ecosystem which includes aquatic/reptilian species, mammals, and avian species. This property contains unique and special land features that have been wiped out from most of New Castle County. These features include vernal pools, wetlands, and lush forest land. Forested wetlands are the number one threatened type of wetlands in Delaware and approximately 50% of our rare and threatened species depend on forested wetlands for their survival.

We must act now and preserve the last remaining parcels of land such as Ogletown Pond/Woods because once they are lost, they are lost forever. I demand my government address my concerns and protect our natural environment and take action to preserve Ogletown Woods/Pond today!
