On Friday 12th August I was harassed and verbally abused by Simon Wright the Developer of North Quay, whilst swimming at the beach, near Lula’s.
The beach was packed with bathers enjoying the beautiful weather and the last thing I expected was to be confronted by someone yelling at me that I was banned from the beach for life and that it was private land.
I tried to swim away from him but he followed me, hurling abuse. He had his son with him and his wife and family on the beach. He ended by saying he would be calling the police if I did not get out of the water.
After the initial shock had worn off, I was left reeling that Simon Wright thinks that he can stop people using the beach. Is this the vision he has for Hayle?
This altercation has sent alarm bells ringing, because here is a Developer shouting publicly that he owns the beach, it is private land, and he owns all the access and surrounding area and he can stop anyone using it at any time. Will the beach become exclusive, with only Simon Wright’s approved people allowed?
I have been using this beautiful beach for 30 years. We seriously need action to unite against any further development at North Quay and alert the people of Hayle, to what is happening at this site.
I thought seeing our sand sold off by the lorry load was bad enough, but no access to the beach is horrific.
Remember Simon Wright said no sand was going off site, so you cannot rely on him saying he does not intend for the beach to become private. It is clear if you upset him, you will be banned.
