GEORGE BROWN COLLEGE WINTER 2022 SEMESTER

GEORGE BROWN COLLEGE WINTER 2022 SEMESTER
The Issue
Hello there, and thank you for taking your time to read this!!!
If you are a Student, Professor, or even a staff member of George Brown College you are welcome to sign this petition regardless of what program you are in, this is impacting all of us!!! THE MORE THE BETTER!!!!!!!
Recently George Brown College announced that Winter Semester 2022 will be Hybrid. Some students, as well as Professors, find this a bit concerning.
At the moment I have been emailing professors as well as staff as well as asking professors in classes about how the hybrid system will work and have been told many different things and that at the moment there is a lot of changes going on in the background. Which seem to be unnecessary.
Why should students, professors as well as staff need to commute for 1 - 2 hours for class then just leave. I Understand having the right lab material as well as the equipment is important for many labs, but we have been doing them for 1.5 years now and there seem to be no problems with it.
I was also told All students will need to be vaccinated to arrive at the campus. now put this in perspective one classmate told me that he has a friend who goes to the campus and depending on the day this person has to stay in a line outside sometimes for 15 -30 mins (sometimes even longer) because there are limited places to enter the college. Also, it is getting very cold, winter is coming. Now I ask you all Students, Professors as well as Staff how many of you want to wait in the cold from anywhere to 15 - 30 minutes? (possibly even longer) and remember the security will need to do a covid-19 check, Covid-19 Passport check, Student ID Check, As well as to make sure you are wearing a mask, etc... Now, what happens if you forget your covid-19 passport or Student ID, or Mask... WELL SORRY, NO NEGOTIATIONS, NO CLASS FOR YOU!!!!!!!. We, students, are paying to come to school and learn and we already have enough stress to deal with in our lives. If one day we forget something well too bad, thanks for your money but you can't come in because you don't have one of the following items (Covid-19 Passport, Student ID, Mask, etc...)
Some students are excited to return to campus because they have not seen friends, professors, staff, as well as classmates in over 1.5 years. And yes a lot of students miss that all. HOWEVER, not every student, as well as professor, feels this is the time to return to campus. While every student needs to be vaccinated to be on campus that does not mean we are all safe. Students, Professors as well as Staff who are vaccinated can still spread the virus to each other, which is still concerning. Students are worried to arrive on campus because of this. Also, many other Colleges, as well as Universities, have hybrid or in-person learning, and MANY of these students not ALL but MANY are going to party's unmasked as well as untested and because of this more people are getting the virus even if all the students are vaccinated. This is why SOME students are still very hesitant or even worried to go to campus. ONCE AGAIN I AM NOT SAYING ALL STUDENTS ARE LIKE THIS BUT THERE ARE SOME LIKE THIS. AND MANY STUDENTS HAVE TO COMMUTE HOME WHICH THEN, CAN SPREAD THE VIRUS TO OTHER PEOPLE, FRIENDS, AS WELL AS FAMILY MEMBERS.
Also, there are a lot of restrictions on campus because we are still in a pandemic. Also because of the previous hack attack that happened at the college during the summer of 2021, there will also be a lot more restrictions on what you can bring to the college, for example. (BYOD) BRING YOUR OWN DEVICES. A lot more restrictions will be put in place for students, professors, as well as staff for their devices. This means students will now have even fewer things to do while they are at the campus.
Also, there are still international students who can not come to Canada because their vaccination status is not recognized. What do these students do? It would not be fair for them to drop out because their country does not offer a certain vaccine HOW IS THAT FAIR?
Also what about the students who can't get vaccinated because of Religious reasons, Health reasons, or are just Hesitant? Just because of their Religion, Health, or just because they are Hesitant they don't get to participate in school? HOW IS THAT FAIR?
Another thing why does the College want to go hybrid now? Why the change? Also, why is the College changing halfway through the year? why do that? Wouldn't it be better to make changes at the beginning of the school year not halfway through the year? I understand not everyone likes online classes but because of what is going on in the world right now everyone would rather be safe than sorry.
REMEMBER WE ARE STILL IN A PANDEMIC!!!
In the past week, we have seen Covid-19 cases rising!!! In the past week, covid-19 counts are in the 700's as cases continue to rise week by week which is not a good sign. If this keeps rising we may have to go into a lockdown again. Which many people don't want but might happen. Western Europe is heading into lockdown and parts of the USA said if needed they might lockdown if cases go up as well.
Also what happens if the college gets a covid-19 outbreak? What will happen? does the college close? do classes get suspended? , Do we move online? and if we move online what was the point of going to the campus in the first place?
NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO BE COMING BACK TO CAMPUS!!!!!!!
If George Brown College says it's for the Students, Professors, and Staff let the Students, Professors as well as the Staff decide what is best for them!!!
Thank you very much for reading this and I hope we can change the direction for how next semester will be taught!!!
Thanks again for reading and have a wonderful day!!!!!!!
