John Mason’s response

Many thanks to all those who have signed this petition and expressed their concern for the vulnerable residents of the Bellgrove Hotel.
I spoke at the Council's Licensing Committee on October 22 concerning the HMO licence renewal but I accept that their room for manoeuvre was limited. I also asked the Scottish Government a question on November 6.
Despite the widespread coverage of the Bellgrove Hotel by the BBC, Record, Evening Times and others over many years, progress has been painfully slow. Next I hope to have a debate in the Scottish Parliament about this but I do not yet have a date.
As far as I can see, the City Council, Scottish Government, and UK Government all have a role to play in resolving this. Social Work could be intervening more, there could be more regulation, and the DWP could be imposing more conditions when they write the cheques.
Thanks again for your support and please keep up the pressure on all three levels of government.
