With Keir Starmer's resignation and Andy Burnham being the favourite to replace him, it's important that the Prime Minister and government  continue towork for British people. As a democratic country a general election should be called because:

1. Andy Burnham has not been an MP in parliament for 16 years now and would be a massive jump to go from that to leading Labour and the country.

2. Andy Burnham was not an MP when Labour were voted in with its manifesto.  A GE should be called with Andy Burnham's own manifesto to let the public vote

3. When Conservatives appointed Rishi Sunak as leader, many Labour MPs (including Andy Burnham himself) called for a general election as Rishi was not voted in.  It would be hypocritical to go ahead without applying the same rules to themselves.

The only way to set a path forward and help restore any public trust at all would be for parties to put forward their manifestos and allow the public to decide.

If a general election under current laws is not called then we signed call for a law to be added for referendum as we did with brexit to allow the public to vote to dissolve a parliament who have been voted in and later found to not fulfil their manifesto, steer in a different direction from it or where the Prime Minister resigns or is removed by the party.  There should be a law not to allow a party to simply replace the leader with someone who was not voted in by the public with no manifesto. In these circumstances an election should be called with all potential leaders providing their own manifesto.  The current system is out of date as proven by the number of PM's we have had in recent years proving there is no consistency in politics at present and reflects in the serious problems ans current state of the country.
