The issue

In the 1990s, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) of Australia worked tirelessly to eliminate the burdensome annual aircraft registration costs, advocating instead for a more equitable user-pays fuel levy. Through their immense efforts, a system was established that enjoyed success. However, the current government now threatens to undo this progress by reintroducing annual registration fees without eliminating the fuel levy, leading to a situation where aircraft owners are effectively subject to double taxation.

The re-imposition of these fees places an unnecessary and substantial financial burden on the general aviation industry, which is especially vulnerable in today's challenging economic climate. The aviation sector is a crucial part of our economy, contributing to jobs and innovation, and adding to these financial burdens could stifle growth and lead to adverse economic impacts.

It is essential for the government to recognize the achievements made in the past and maintain a fair framework that supports both aircraft owners and the broader industry. Scrapping the proposed reintroduction of registration fees would protect the gains made since the '90s and ensure that the aviation sector can continue to thrive.

Join us in opposing these changes that disregard previous achievements and threaten the vitality of general aviation. By signing this petition, you support a fair and just system that respects the efforts of the past and secures a sustainable future for Australian aviation.  This petition will be presented to representatives on all sides of government.
