Gender Neutral Bathrooms in BAVPA

The Issue

Our goal is to make sure people feel safe and accepted in our school.

We are doing this for our school because of the harassment that children under the transgender umbrella face.

We only have one gender neutral bathroom and it's all the way by the main stage. The bathroom should be easily accessible, and should not frighten a kid to ask to go use that certain bathroom. It takes up at least 10 minutes of learning time to get to the bathroom if you are leaving the library.

Not only is the bathroom away from almost every class, the bathroom is always kept locked. Having the bathroom to make transgender and nonbinary students feel accepted, doesn't help or serve any purpose when the bathroom is never open for students to use.

As a transgender person, I've dealt with many comments of being in the woman's bathroom. If I were to go into the men's restroom, I would feel very uncomfortable. When I walk into the girls bathroom I feel ashamed of myself, because I don't feel like I belong. Every time I walk into the bathroom there's always somebody in there that turns to talk about me. I've cut my hair and I bind, but it doesn't seem to be enough to feel accepted.
Another transgender student states, "We have a gender-neutral bathroom at school but it's pretty out of the way and really far from a lot of the high school classes the only class that it's close to for me is the gym and last year it was locked a lot I don't know about this year cause I have only been at it once I feel as if we don't have enough gender neutral bathrooms in public l often have to hold it when in stores or other places due to the lack of these bathrooms and I know others have to as well and it really sucks because if we speak out about it we get called snowflakes and we get harassed just for wanting to pee."

Our idea of making this movement is to replace one or two of the faculty bathrooms, one on each floor, So it is easier for students to access their comfortable bathrooms.
