Since X and Y, all new Pokémon games have character customization with Sword and Shield promoting itself as having the most extensive options of any previous one. But despite that, every item of clothing is strictly separated on the basis of gender. Of course, the purpose of such customization is to let the players see themselves in the game, but for many GNC people, it's significantly harder to do so. Society has made much progress when it comes to the acceptance of clothing as being inherently non-gendered items and it's time for these games to catch up.
