A specially commissioned Architectural Heritage Appraisal (prepared by a RIAI Grade 1 accredited Conservation Architect) has been submitted to Galway County Council – along with an 8,200+ signature petition.
We are respectfully requesting that the cottage and curtilage located at Tiernakill South, and recognised both nationally and internationally as being ‘The Quiet Man’ cottage, be added to the Council’s Record of Protected Structures (RPS).
The purpose of addition to the RPS would be to halt further deterioration of the the cottage and very importantly - it's curtilage - before everything is lost forever. Neither should be allowed to, needlessly and unnecessarily, rot away into oblivion.
In fact, as things currently stand - without ANY legislative protection - this iconic site could be levelled without consequence or accountability.
