How long will Gallaudet University continue to dodge accountability? The situation is deeply troubling. Carl Dupree tragically lost his life after being placed in a chokehold by campus security. Two murders occurred on campus, as detailed in People Magazine Investigates. Gianni "Gio" Manganelli died by suicide after being brutalized by campus security, falsely arrested and jailed during a mental health crisis, further compounded by the university’s refusal to provide him with safe housing. Roberto Cuenca Maldonado tragically died due to the Department of Public Safety's (DPS) failure to respond adequately to an emergency. Alarmingly, it was later revealed that Gallaudet’s DPS was operating illegally without a valid license at the time of Roberto’s death.
These incidents expose a harrowing pattern of systemic negligence and misconduct. When will Gallaudet finally take responsibility for the safety and well-being of its students? And how much longer will these failures be ignored by those tasked with oversight and accountability?
