Beyond Hadrian's wall are UNESCO's Frontiers of the Roman Empire.
In 1566 Mary Queen of Scots rode from Jedburgh to Hermitage castle in the Scottish Borders to visit her injured lover and future husband, James Hepburn, The Earl of Bothwell.
Ive just finished a short movie, with music by Kathryn Tickell, for the 2024 Mary Queen of Scots exhibition at the Borderlands Museum, Teviothead.
The footage follows Mary's Iconic ride along the Queen's Mire, a prehistoric right of way.
Please watch, hopefully enjoy, and share!
If you can, watch it on a big screen with good sound, its shot in 4K.
This is a land that time forgot.
The footage includes sites accessible only by foot, and never before properly photographed - no kidding.
At one time this route continued on from Hermitage castle, as the Thieves road, all the way down through Bewcastle, and on to Hadrian's wall.
You have to question why is this Iconic right of way is today unrecognised and impassable in parts...
We believe this route should be recognised and reinstated as an asset for all - known the World over, Mary is a global female Icon, and her dramatic ride to Hermitage one of the most romantic episodes of her life...
