FXPLUS, Falmouth University and the University of Exeter: Stop the transfer of A&SS (inc.Library, IT, AV, ASK and Dyslexia) to FXPLUS

The Issue

We are concerned that the transfer of our Academic and Student Services to the Falmouth Exeter Plus (FX Plus) organisation, will compromise the quality and delivery of our services.

Neither students nor staff have been consulted about this proposal.

Falmouth University employs around 130 Academic & Student Services staff, who have been providing a high quality service to both the University of Exeter and Falmouth University since 2004. The potential transfer of these staff may have a negative impact on their engagement with academic staff and the wider HE community.

This could have a detrimental effect on delivery of service - with emphasis being removed from Higher Education to a business/commercially driven model.

The pay, terms and conditions at FX Plus are inferior to those offered by Falmouth University and the University of Exeter and reflect a 'Cornish regional wage', while expecting the same quality of service.

*UPDATE*

Staff were informed on Monday, 7th January that Academic & Student Services will be transferred to Falmouth Exeter Plus on 1st April 2013. Staff are outraged that they will be outside of national pay bargaining and that new colleagues will be starting on lower pay and inferior terms and conditions. With morale so low, inevitably the student experience will be affected, and in the long term quality of services are at risk.
