Remove Dr. Max Krochmal and investigate the Race and Ethnic Equity Committee

The Issue

Dr. Max Krochmal, co-chair of the Race and Ethnic Equity Committee for the FWISD school board, recently made racist, slanderous, and hate-filled remarks primarily against parents advocating for the choice to have in-person learning - individuals he lumps into "wealthy white folks" and the "ultra-privileged" - inciting racial and class hatred in a FW Weekly article:

  • "Worse than their unacknowledged privilege is the other side’s dripping paternalism and, yes, racism toward Black and Brown families."
  • "It is not the job of schools...to provide unsafe childcare to Black and Brown families so that white people can profit."
  • "They really don’t care how many teachers and Black and Brown families they infect or kill to get the economy running again — to restore their profit margins to pre-COVID levels."

From his position on the school board committee, he not only attacks a group of community members based on their skin color; he also critiques "even the 'best' schools" in the district as inadequate, unsafe, and dysfunctional. Finally, he accuses "the superintendent on down to middle managers and even teachers on campuses" of racial and class bias.

Krochmal's unethical behavior is unacceptable from a school board representative. We are calling for his immediate removal from the Race and Ethnic Equity Committee and any future affiliation with school board leadership.

We are also calling for an internal review of the Race and Ethnic Equity Committee due to their support of Dr. Krochmal's article as well racist language perpetrated by members in recent meetings. The toxic ideology touted in this committee is antithetical to the values of FWISD and divisive to our community.
