Camp Texlake is a very important camp that is on Lake Travis and is many campers and staff's favorite place in the world. This camp has taught me so many lessons and gifted me so many memories. To have this place taken away from me and others like me feels heartbreaking and I want to do everything I can to save it, because it spreads the love it's fuelled from.

Recently, Girl Scouts of Central Texas released this video explaining that they will "pause" operations of Camp Texlake being available for summer camp and for weekend troop visits. They state that one of the reasons is because of the changing safety expectations to floodplains. This video also stated that resources would be used towards Bluebonnet Shores Girl Scout camp and not towards Texlake. 

Texlake has such a long and rich legacy with the campers turning to staff, singing trees before meals, their variety of camps, their teaching of outdoors and nature, their facilities, and their inside jokes. Additonally, they teach many foundational skills, build a strong community, fuel passion, and so much more. How can we let all that go in the face of adversity? 

Camp Texlake has been a part of my life for seven years. Here, I learned what makes a place a home. I've got pieces of it everywhere I go: patches on my cadette sash, year wood cookies hung up in my room, lessons I've learned, and memories I hold. I remember every session I've been and I hold those memories so close to my heart. I was going through a really hard time this past school year and going back to camp was the one thing I wanted and what kept me going longer than anything else. 

My goal with this petition is to have Girl Scouts of Central Texas fuse the traditions of Texlake with those at Bluebonnet Shores. After attending the Q&A hosted by Girl Scouts and talking to Ms. Bookidis, the CEO, I realized that saving all of Texlake is out of my hands and this is something I can do. I want those who would have gotten year pins at Texlake to get them at Bluebonnet Shores. Additionally, I want to take traditions and pieces from Texlake to Bluebonnet Shores. For example, keeping art and painted stone from past years at the Bluebonnet Shores location.
