Funding for ACE Memberships/Classes/Sessions
The Issue
It is well known that physical and social activity improves health and mental well being. Active Communities Experiences has, since 2020 been delivering much needed and vital services by way of an affordable activity provision, including social and health related activities. This has been at a great cost to the company which we have always found ways in which to fund with our own determination spirit and never say die attitude, while we have had assets provided in part, we have always had to cover the costs of coaches, equipment and the overall expenditure needed to maintain services. This has enabled over the last 3 years more than 500 plus people to gain access to activities and experiences they would otherwise not have been able to receive. While a notional sum of £10.00 pm was issued as a membership fee, this was subsidised by our own company efforts in securing patrons, match funding, and our wider activities that generate revenue.
- We have in the last 3 years provided more children and young people with access to affordable subsidised high quality activity, ranging from football, netball, musical theatre, parkour, gymnastics, dodgeball and more.
- We have brought back youth clubs to the community, which allow on average 40-50 young people the chance to have a safe fun space, with someone to talk to, somewhere to go and something to do, which has been much needed.
- We have tackled social isolation, and have assisted the community in desperate times with a range of help.
- We have worked with the local community to reduce litter, crime, youth offending, ASB and more.
- We have provided over 100 plus children with activities in school holidays along with healthy food and support.
- Brought about the creation of a dedicated library provision for the children of BHPS and others, which was attended by many of the council figures we now seek to ask for support.
- Xmas parades in 2020/21 with thousands of selection boxes and other gifts provided for children across Bridgehall and Adswood.
- The list is endless.......

We have done all of this without any continuous source of funding from the council who have a vested interest in this work from a societal perspective but also from a straight forward cost perspective. For every £1.00 spent on creating an active person, they save £4.00.
Sadly due to the current climate and the need for us to ensure that we can still deliver our Holiday activities and Food provisions, and SEND pilot projects, and other special projects, we are in a position where we cannot (and arguably should not) have to fund the coaches and other admin that comes with the above.
We therefore now call on you the community that we have helped and sought to provide for, to help us by signing this petition which argues that the council and other providers should be part funding us to deliver the classes in 2023 onwards. We never wanted any handouts and nor do you, we built a model that shows quite clearly an estate can look after itself, however it is only fair and justified that the very council we seek to elect show the same degree of support and "hand ups", for their constituents and communities, as they do for their other exploits and organisations.
Recently the council has sought to absorb leisure providers (Life Leisure) into the council, prop up extortionate costs of running numerous leisure facilities sites, and created a CIC which trades as Life Leisure but is in fact an arms length body of SMBC.
We feel those facilities are needed, of course, but for a fraction of the cost around 0.5% of the total costs of those bail outs, they could provide ACE with the funds needed to provide these sessions and memberships FOC or certainly at our existing rates of £10.00 per month.
PLEASE NOW HELP US BY COMPLETING THIS PETITION, AND SHOW THAT TOGETHERWEAREACE
WE WILL NEVER STOP FIGHTING FOR THIS, BUT ITS TIME FOR THE AUTHORITIES TO START TAKING A LEAF OUT OF OUR BOOK AND PROVIDING YOU THE COMMUNITY WITH THE SUPPORT YOU DESERVE.
WITH THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF SIGNATURES WE WILL ENSURE THAT WE BRING ALL OUR SREVCIES BACK IN 2023 AND NEVER STOP FIGHTING UNTIL WE GET WHAT WE ALL DESERVE.
