Fund Emergency Care for 64 Rescued Animals in Genesee County

Fund Emergency Care for 64 Rescued Animals in Genesee County
The Issue
On February 17, 2026, Genesee County Animal Control removed 61 dogs and 3 cats from a Flint Township home where they were found living in extreme neglect and hazardous conditions.
Genesee County Animal Control staff walked into toxic air, burning eyes, and heartbreaking suffering to save animals who had no voice and no way out. They did their job. Now it’s our turn to do ours.
Caring for 61 dogs and 3 cats rescued from prolonged neglect — many of them fearful, medically fragile, and in need of extensive treatment — requires significant resources. Veterinary care, food, behavioral support, forensic evaluation, and ongoing sheltering costs add up quickly. And this is happening while the shelter continues caring for roughly 100 other animals and keeping space available for future emergencies.
We are calling on the Genesee County Board of Commissioners to approve emergency funding for Genesee County Animal Control and establish a dedicated emergency response fund to ensure the shelter can respond swiftly and effectively to future large-scale rescues without straining its core operations.
These animals survived dangerous and traumatizing conditions. Now they deserve medical care, safety, and kindness.
We urge the Genesee County Board of Commissioners to move swiftly to establish stable emergency funding so our county is better equipped to prevent, investigate, and respond to severe neglect cases.
Sign this petition to show that Genesee County stands for compassion, accountability, and responsible stewardship.
