I am a passionate supporter of youth hockey and have witnessed firsthand the negative impact of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association's (OMHA) mandatory half-ice rule for U9MD players. This rule restricts our young athletes from playing on full ice until January, which is not only limiting their potential but also driving them away from OMHA to Outlaw Leagues.

The current policy is causing a significant loss of players. These young athletes are eager to experience the real thrill and challenge of full ice hockey, but they are being denied this opportunity for half the season. The result? They're leaving OMHA in droves.

The benefits of full-ice games for U9 MD players are numerous. It allows them to develop their skills more effectively, understand positioning better, and get used to the actual game conditions they will face as they grow older. Half-ice games simply do not offer these advantages.

It's time we reconsider this policy for the sake of our young athletes' development and love for hockey. By allowing U9MD’s  to play a full Season of full ice hockey instead of half ice until January, we can keep our talented youngsters within OMHA leagues while also fostering their growth as future stars in this beloved sport.
