The Friends of MacCabe Park strongly support a new skatepark in the central area of Wollongong.

Council is determined to press ahead with this project before their intention to masterplan the entire park in the next 12 months.

Council gave the community little to no choice but to have a 2,500 square metre facility, including 1,500 square metres of concrete, on what is the largest area of green space in Wollongong CBD's largest city parkland. 

We believe there are better locations, away from the heat of the city centre towards the ocean. 

We would appreciate your support to send a strong message to Council that the community deserves a choice. 
Build a skatepark, YES. But get the location right.

At the Save MacCabe Park Rally 22nd August 2026, there was unanimous support for the resolutions below:

1.To put an immediate stop to Council’s plans to place a 1500 sq metre skatepark in MacCabe Park’s main event space.
2. Not to carry out any significant changes or works in MacCabe Park until such time as the long-promised Masterplan has been completed, so the community can have input into what is planned for the park in future.
3. Council immediately commences a site selection process to identify alternative locations for a new regional skatepark in Ward Two. Once options have been identified Council consults widely with the community to determine its preferred location.
