Hi Everyone –
As dear Fr. John continues his witnessing to us through his faith and his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, many of you continue to ask the simple question of Bishop Larry Kulick … WHY?
…WHY did you choose to make a beloved pastor and servant the scapegoat for the Diocese’s own laxity in administering the Safe Environment program?
…WHY have you refused to forgive Fr. John of his honest mistake, even after he was fully exonerated of your conspiracy accusations by the Westmoreland DA and a Canonical investigation team, but instead, have chosen to continue to publicly call his oversight “egregious”?
…WHY have you made no attempts to recognize the damage that you have done to the flocks of Immaculate Conception and Elizabeth Ann Seton – who’s souls you have abandoned by refusing our need for healing?
…WHY has the Diocese not re-taken the responsibility for and administration of the Safe Environment program as initially committed by the former Bishop Malesic?
…WHY instead has the Diocese built a Communications Department of 10 people (larger than many mid-size corporations), and squandered church parishes’ financial gifts to the Diocese on expensive endeavors, such as the television broadcasts of The Accent?
…WHY should we, your numerous parish flocks, trust your stewardship of our Diocesan Lenten Appeal offerings?
And, WHY will you not allow Fr. John to return to celebrate a farewell mass at Immaculate Conception and at Elizabeth Ann Seton, so that we can thank him, hug him, and wish him the very best in his new assignments and in his on-going battle with cancer?
Dear friends… many of you, as of this time, have been kind enough to add your name to this on-line petition, and we are grateful, as it has resulted in Fr. John’s re-instatement and the return of his priestly faculties.
But many of you have chosen not to make your voices heard individually to Bishop Kulick, Cardinal Pierre, or to our Catholic brothers and sisters.
If you have chosen to forgive Bishop Kulick and do not believe him to be accountable to answer questions such as the above, then you need do nothing more.
But, if you believe that this situation has been horribly handled and that the Bishop is accountable for what he has done to Fr. John and the Immaculate Conception and Elizabeth Ann Seton parishes (“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” Jeremiah 23), then I implore you to be courageous and take a few minutes and “make your voice known”, to share it with others. Below are names and addresses that you can address your personal thoughts to, and I am happy to discuss with and support you in so doing.
And finally, let us continue to pray for Father John, as he continues to pray for each and every one of us!
Thank you and may God bless us in this new year,
Chris Peta
