This is just one example of the rampant corruption, hypocrisy and immorality that is interwoven inside of the fabric of Corrections. Proof of that fact, this was not the only deputy arrested for sexual crimes here at SCI Phoenix this week (allegedly). The sad and hypocritical part of these two particular deputies being arrested for such heinous crimes is, their role here at the institution was in security. And in that role, they have a huge say concerning what is and what is not allowed here, how our families are treated and they have been overly punitive to those under their watch and to our families. While these "men" allegedly took part in the disgusting acts of which they have been accused, each and every day they came here and oppressed others, under the guise of "security". Now being a man who is wrongfully convicted and has spent twenty-four years unjustly incarcerated. I am cognizant that charges do not equate to guilt. For that matter, neither does a conviction. But the demeanor, energy and attitude of these two men in particular, leads me to personally believe that this is absolutely something that they are capable of. These types of crimes, from my observation are reserved for the lowest of the low. Many of those whom I've encountered while incarcerated (who fit this mold) were arrogant, entitled, judgmental and just creepy. We must demand better! The safety of all American communities is dependent upon the successful reentry of the 700,000 annual returning citizens all across this Nation. Now I must acknowledge that these "men" are an extreme example of rotten leadership. There are positive examples within the DOC. (Deputy Sipple, former Superintendent Tammy Ferguson and others). However, far too many "bad apples" exist, and control positions of power and they are impacting far too many individuals, families and communities. Corrections must become more than the final letter of an acronym (D.O.C). Corrections should mean integrity, should mean excellence, should mean work ethic and this example MUST be consistent throughout those who oversee the lives and futures of those who overwhelmingly will soon be. returning citizens. The safety of our Country depends on it. The future of these men and woman who are paying their debt to society hangs in the balance and their failure will become societies weight to bare. However, with a new directive within Corrections their success will be to societies benefit. Is this Corrections?
