Free the Flow NZ

Free the Flow NZ
The issue
Free the Flow NZ is a campaign advocating for equitable access to period products across New Zealand. While free period products are currently available in schools, this support does not extend to adults or those not attending school. Many people facing cost-of-living pressures are left without access to essential menstrual care.
Period products are necessary for health and participation in daily life, including education, work, and community involvement. Lack of access can create barriers and contribute to inequality. The current school-based system recognises the importance of menstrual equity, but it leaves a significant gap for those outside the education system.
This petition is driven by a current Year 13 Student, calling for government-funded period products to be made available at public health centres across New Zealand, similar to how condoms are currently distributed. Public health centres are accessible, providing discreet and equitable support for anyone who needs it.
Expanding access beyond schools would build on existing government initiatives, reduce period poverty, and improve public health outcomes. FreetheFlowNZ aims to ensure that access to essential menstrual products is not limited by age, income, or education status, and that everyone in New Zealand can access the care they need.
