my name is Katie and I have an 18 month old son who is moderately deaf. We have chosen to learn BSL so if he is unable to wear his hearing aids or we are somewhere where they can’t be used or work effectively we will be able to communicate effectively. 
For many parents sign language will be the main form of communication with their child. 
I cannot see how it is right that parents need to pay to learn this. 

Local colleges run the courses for BSL levels 1,2 and 3. They cost an average of £400 per level. There are some exceptions such as if people receive benefits. I do not think it is right that parents should have to pay to communicate with their child. 

I want to show the government that this is important and necessary. It is amazing that BSL is now a recognised language. But it isn’t enough if people don’t have the money to learn it.
