We the undersigned people of conscience condemn in the strongest possible term the illegal kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady and National Assembly Member Cilia Flores! These elected officials of the sovereign and democratic Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela must be released from US custody immediately and returned home to Venezuela.

President Maduro and First Lady Flores are being held hostage as part of the United States’ brutal aggression against Venezuela, in an attempt to pressure the Venezuelan people to give up control over their own resources. The Trump Administration has no right to dictate to the people of Venezuela, and we decry this injustice emphatically and unequivocally.

The resources spent on keeping these two elected officials locked away as hostages are resources that should be spent on programs that actually help and support working families in this country, like education, housing, healthcare, and food benefits. 

Every single day that these two world leaders are locked in the Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting a sham trial on these utterly baseless and fraudulent criminal charges is a crime of the utmost magnitude against the sovereign and dignified people of Venezuela.

The Venezuelan people have the right to choose their own leadership and to decide what happens with their own resources without being murdered, invaded, and kidnapped by the criminal Trump administration.

We demand the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores and their safe return to Venezuela!

We demand that the Trump Administration and the Department of Justice immediately drop these fraudulent charges!

We call upon all attorneys of conscience in the Department of Justice to refuse to participate in this repugnant and despicable lawsuit!

We demand the Trump administration pay reparations to the Venezuelan people for the kidnapping of their elected officials and the murder of more than 100 Venezuelans during the Trump Administration’s January 3rd bombing and invasion of their country!

We demand an end to all US aggression, sanctions, and threats against the sovereign Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela!
