FREE political activist Oscar-René Vargas Escobar from Ortega-Murillo regime imprisonment

The Issue

The Ortega-Murillo regime imprisoned political activist Oscar-René Vargas Escobar on November 22nd, 2022. Oscar-René Vargas Escobar, sociologist, historian, and economist, is the author of 36 books and co-author of another twenty. This man is another victim of judicial persecution of all dissenting voices in Nicaragua.

At the moment, the state of Nicaragua has been condemned for violating political rights by the Organization of American States United Nations on several occasions. The United Nations Human Rights Council, resolution 49/3, adopted on March 31st, 2022, condemned  Nicaraguan governmental arbitrary detentions. The United Nations and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights recognize more than 200 people are in a similar situation.

We need your help to condemn the sentencing of political prisoners in Nicaragua by authoritarian President Ortega and Vice-President Murrillo. Your support contributes to the increase awareness of the lack of enjoyment of civil and political rights, and particularly freedom of expression, occurring in Nicaragua.
