Free Lucy from Edmonton Valley Zoo

Free Lucy from Edmonton Valley Zoo
The Issue
For over 45 years, Lucy, a majestic and lovely elephant, has been confined in the Edmonton Valley Zoo in Alberta, Canada, a place that can only be described as a hellhole. Taken from her mother when she was merely a baby, Lucy's life has been one of solitude and confinement. She once had a friend, Samantha, but they were cruelly separated, leaving Lucy alone for decades without the companionship that is so vital for elephants.
Her surroundings are utterly inadequate. Lucy has no access to a proper pool to splash around in, and she spends her days standing on hard concrete rather than the lush grasses that should be her home. Elephants are highly intelligent and social creatures, meant to roam freely in their natural habitats. Instead, Lucy has known nothing but isolation and a lack of proper environmental enrichment for almost half a century.
This situation is unacceptable and represents a national disgrace for Canada. However, there is hope. A sanctuary has extended an offer to provide a new home for Lucy — a place where she can live out her days in peace, with the companionship of other elephants and the opportunity to engage in natural behaviors. The sanctuary's doors are open, but Lucy remains trapped in her current conditions.
The eyes of the world are upon us, watching Lucy's plight with horror. Animal lovers, like myself, who contribute to animal charities, are appalled by the continued neglect and mistreatment she endures. It is time for change.
Lucy's transfer to the sanctuary is not only possible but necessary for her well-being. Urge the authorities and the Edmonton Valley Zoo to do the right thing and allow Lucy to move to the sanctuary, where she can finally experience the life she deserves. Sign this petition and help give Lucy the chance for a new beginning and a happy ending.
