A single judge has rejected Julian’s appeal against his extradition order. This brings him dangerously close to being extradited to the United States, where he could face life in prison or worse and permanently impact the climate for journalism around the world.
There is only one step left in the UK courts - Julian has five working days to submit an appeal of only 20 pages to a panel of two judges, who will convene a public hearing. If Julian loses this one further appeals will not be possible in the UK courts.
We’ve always known that this case is political, which means we can challenge it politically as well.
There are two ways you can help the Assange family today:
1. If you're in Australia and can spare 30 minutes, call your MP today?
We have a simple and handy guide to help you reach the right person and to help you have the most impactful conversation. Will you call your MP today?
2. Can you chip into our appeal action fund?
The next five days will be a critical period for the case, it is the last opportunity we have in the UK. We have to throw everything at the wall, and we have to do it quickly. Can you help make sure we have the resources we need to do that by chipping in $50 to our appeal action fund right now?
In defending Julian, it sometimes feels like nothing has happened for years, and sometimes years happen in a few days. This is one of those times. Let’s seize this moment as best we can - I remain optimistic that we will prevail.
