We are progressing through the Australian Parliament with open support to free Julian Assange from across the political spectrum. From Left through the Centre and to the Right of the political. In particular from Former Deputy Prime Minister and current sitting Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce. "I support the proper process of Australian law as applied to our citizens in our land in respect of our laws; it is the essence of sovereignty,"

"If someone was in another country at a time an alleged event occurred then the sovereignty of the land they were in has primacy over the accusation of another nation," Mr Joyce said.

"It would be totally unreasonable, for instance, if China was to say the actions of an Australian citizen whilst in Australia made them liable to extradition to China to answer their charges of their laws in China. Many in Hong Kong have the same view." Mr Joyce told The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald, Source:https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/barnaby-joyce-joins-calls-to-stop-extradition-of-assange-to-us-20191013-p53080.html

Great Efforts from Andrew Wilkie Independent MP

Yes Julian Assange is a controversial figure. But he is an Australian citizen and must be treated like any other Australian.

He was not in the US when he provided evidence of US war crimes in Iraq. He can’t possibly have broken their laws.

“If Assange is indeed extradited to the US, he faces serious human rights violations including exposure to torture and a dodgy trial.

“And this has serious implications for freedom of speech and freedom of the press here in Australia, because if we allow a foreign country to charge an Australian citizen for revealing war crimes, then no Australian journalist or publisher can ever be confident that the same thing won’t happen to them.

“The man’s an Australian. He’s not an American. And he wasn’t in the US when he spoke out about the war crimes. Put simply he must be allowed to return to Australia.” Oct. 16, 2019 Source with video: http://andrewwilkie.org/julian-assange-should-be-allowed-to-return-to-australia/

Parliamentary Julian Assange Group formally established
23 Oct, 2019: "On behalf of the Bring Julian Assange Home Parliamentary Group I am pleased to announce that the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives formally approved the Group yesterday.

At this early stage the Group already has 11 members including LNP, National, ALP and crossbench members and is co-chaired by the member for Dawson, George Christensen MP, and myself.

The Group will provide a forum for the members to meet together and with stakeholders and discuss matters relating to Julian Assange returning to Australia."

Support from Greens Senator NIck McKim. Here I quote correspondence directly to the petition (Exclusive Release from Greens Oct. 23, 2019).

"Thank you so much for copying your petition to Senator Nick McKim regarding Julian Assange. As Office Manager, I am replying on Nick’s behalf.

The Australian Greens have called upon the Australian Government to swiftly intervene to ensure that Julian Assange is not extradited to the United States.

The leader of the Australian Greens – Senator Richard Di Natale – has stated:

“Regardless of what you think about Assange as an individual, he is facing extradition to the US on charges relating to his work to shine light on potential war crimes – an act that won him Australia’s highest honour for journalism”.

“Seeking to punish Assange for exposing evidence of US atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan would put a chilling effect on moves towards open and more transparent democracy.” Extract from Phillip Adams's (Petitioner) email from the Office of Australian Greens Senator Nick McKim's .

"The Labor backbencher Julian Hill has declared Australia must vigorously contest any move to extradite the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange from the United Kingdom to the United States on espionage charges.

Joining concerns about Assange expressed by the former Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce, the Victorian Labor MP told Guardian Australia: “I do hold serious concerns about [Assange’s] situation.

“He’s an Australian and at the very least we must be vigorously consistent in opposing extradition to countries where he might face the death penalty.” Source Oct. 15, 2019 https://www.theguardian.com/media/2019/oct/15/australia-must-oppose-any-move-to-extradite-julian-assange-to-us-labor-mp-says
