Dear Parliamentarian,

It is clearly understood by the people that Julian Assange is in effect a Dead Man Walking and we understand this is due to the persecution of him by criminal elements within our western system of government. Following on from this: Do you really want the deliberate and eternal silencing of one of the most awarded journalists and arguably one of the most influential persons of this time in history to be associated with your leadership? History will record your actions in response to this clear perversion of justice and the psychological torturing of Julian Assange. It is now lawful to free Julian Assange, it is a clear breach of legal principles to continue to politically persecute and arbitrarily detain this Australian Citizen and world renowned 100% fact publishing journalist. Julian Assange is a political prisoner that has been earmarked for assassination on your watch.

What are you going to do about that? The people will judge you by your actions.

It is a matter of urgency that leaders of Australia, USA and Britain should work together to free Julian Assange. The arbitrary persecution and psychological torture of the journalist Julian Assange who published 100% factual information is a clear perversion of justice and a perversion of democratic principles. History has taught us that the first step towards destabilising a true democracy is the arbitrary imprisonment and or slaughtering of fact publishing journalists. The people of the western world are now focusing on the political persecution of Julian Assange who is an Australian Citizen and journalist. Signatories to this petitioned action are now demanding direct intervention in this matter to prevent the apparent process of assassination and or permanent silencing of the most eminent journalist of this time in history.

In this section I have chosen to quote John Shipton (Julian Assange’s father) from his interview in Germany source reference Ruptly Oct. 2, 2019 “ it is important to reintroduce the subject of the importance of press freedom, freedom of association and free speech, in regards to what has happened to Julian over the past nine years, involving arbitrary incarceration in the Ecuadorian Embassy and torture as outlined by Mr Nils Melzer the UN Special Rapporteur on torture.

Julian is currently in Belmarsh Prison which is a grade A maximum security prison…. which is incomprehensible to put this strong minded intellectual with a gentle nature and quite a sweet man actually into a maximum security prison and then graded him as a Grade B prisoner so that he is 22-23 hours a day in solitary confinement. He has no access to the gym, no access to computers, no access to the means to defend himself in the case that is coming up in February.

Page 2

He has now progressed to on “remand” and as a remand prisoner he gets a few more benefits. He can now get more visitors and he will have access to the gym and access to means to defend himself, well some means to defend himself in the case arising up in February (USA extradition case).

I’d like to make a point to my German colleagues that Julian is an Asylee. He was given asylum by the United Nations and as an Asylee he falls under the conventions that the United Kingdom, Germany and my own country (Australia) signed. Those conventions stipulate that Julian must be given freedom to travel over the United Kingdom’s land and take up the asylum. The United Kingdom, couldn’t be bothered and didn’t do it. Further as an Asylee it is not possible to arrest Julian for breaking bail, because he is in asylum, he is (was) in asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy, you can’t break bail if you are given asylum from people that are persecuting you.

But the United Kingdom thought better and sentenced him to a very, very severe sentence where the maximum you can get is 52 weeks and they sentenced Julian to 50 weeks in a Grade A maximum Security Prison rated Prisoner B, 22-23 hours a day in isolation. No access to computers, no access to the gym it is just appalling.

Julian suffered loss of weight. He lost 15 kg and had to be transferred to the prison hospital where he still resides today. I would ask the German parliamentarians and people to consider for your own benefit that the international conventions be obeyed, because they benefit Germany and for press in Germany to understand that if Julian is transferred to the USA and succumbs, it means that the methods of extraterritorial extradition, for crimes that another country makes up because they don’t like you or don’t like what you print can fall upon all journalists here in Germany and Europe. So it is something very important for the media, the German public and for the German Parliamentarians to consider that all that I ask for is to the advantage of Germany/Europe” and Australia, that all these conventions that we signed are obeyed. Thankyou.

President Trump’s Lawyer, Rudy Giuliani Dec. 31, 2018 reference to Julian Assange said and I quote:

“It’s a First Amendment issue…it has a different nature when it’s information... Once it gets to the media publication they can publish it, they can publish it for the basis of informing people. You can’t put Assange in a different position, now he was a guy that communicated. We may not like what he communicates but he was a media facility, he was putting that information out, every news station grabbed it and published it .No press person or person disseminating for the purposes of informing did anything wrong.” Source;( https://www.facebook.com/foxandfriends/videos/806787466324593/ start viewing from the 8 min..

On July 11, 2019 human rights lawyer Ms Amal Clooney spoke at the Global Conference for Media Freedom in London and said “What happens in a country like Australia or the UK or the US will be looked at by every other leader in the world and potentially be used as an excuse to clamp down even further on journalists,' 'Journalists all around the world are less safe if the rhetoric, or even policies or laws, of states that are supposed to be free are actually a threat to journalists in those countries.' ….she also urged the Australian government not to become 'North Korea'. “All governments say they believe in a free press – the right is even enshrined in North Korea’s constitution… what matters is enforcement of this right,' she said.” Source https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7237579/Amal-Clooney-slams-Australia-press-freedom-police-raids.html

Jeremy Hunt’s (British Foreign Minister) announced on April 6, 2019.  “Democratic countries need to stand together to make it an international taboo, of the highest order to murder, arrest or detain journalists just for doing their job.”. Source: https://twitter.com/i/status/1114199640625295361

Mr Bob Carr former Australian foreign Minister said that Australia’s foreign minister, Marise Payne, “needs to protect herself from the charge that she’s failed in her duty to protect the life of an Australian citizen.

“Therefore I would imagine that DFAT [the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade] will provide her with talking points to conversations with her British, Swedish and indeed American counterparts.”

“Not to do so would leave the minister exposed to withering criticism that they did not take all appropriate action that might have made a difference, mainly before the British court makes a decision.” Source: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2019/may/24/assange-extradition-could-test-patience-of-australia-and-us-allies-bob-carr-warns

We highlight the independent polling by 60 Minutes Australia from a large sample group (Dec. 2018) reflecting 91% of respondents via Twitter want the Australian Government to free Julian Assange. This petition’s over 181,601 signatories, without question are determined to secure his freedom after the breach of bail matter is served.

Collectively and once again this has nothing to do with political affiliation with Right, Left or Centre, but everything to do with our children’s future and the type of society we leave for them. We demand Julian Assange walks free after having served the breach of bail matter and not be extradited to the USA. Collectively you have the power end this politically motivated travesty and free Julian Assange.

We agree nobody is above the law and the subversion of democratic and legal principals will not be accepted by this petitioned action. If Julian Assange is extradited to the USA and or dies/assassinated whilst in prison which would be contrary to every democratic convention, then this petition will have no choice but to seek and inquire to prosecute those politicians that failed in their duty of care towards an Australian Citizen. Politicians should consider it as a test case, because at that point we will have nothing to lose. As Jeremy Hunt MP wished we will “stand together to make it an international taboo, of the highest order to murder, arrest or detain journalists just for doing their job”. (Jeremy Hunt April 6 2019).

Yours Faithfully,

Phillip Adams

This Letter was provided to me by John Shipton (Julian Assange’s dad). The letter is from Julian’s brother Gabriel Barber-Shipton and was sent to The Hon. Scott Morrison MP. Prime Minister of Australia. A very moving letter and a point of reflection on what this means to Julian’s family.

His fate and that of our Democracies are in your hands.

How will history interpret your time in a position of power?
