The Issue

Guinness is a 16-year-old rhesus macaque who was bred for the sole purpose of being tested and experimented on by scientists.

The experiments being run on him have been physically and psychologically torturing Guinness for the past 12 years. Guinness is locked in a cage by himself at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) laboratory run by Elisabeth Murray in Bethesda, Maryland.

Along with not seeing the light of day in 12 years, Guinness is regularly restrained, cut open, injected, and psychologically traumatized by realistic-looking model predators such as snakes and spiders for his reaction to be recorded. A titanium post embedded in his skull and a tight metal collar around his neck is used to restrain him. The stress from this torture has caused him to rip his own hair out, leaving bald patches on over 75% of his body. This is his life day in and day out.

Guinness can be seen banging and scratching on the walls of his tiny cage. He has not felt the touch of another monkey since 2009. Small amounts of banana chips, trail mix, or cereal he's given are only enough to keep him alive so he can continue being tortured by Murray.

The worst part is that Guinness is not the only monkey Murray is holding hostage. Hundreds of monkies sit alone in their cold cages for years upon years in Murray's lab being tortured day in and day out. When they are no longer useful to Murray, she will have them killed.

Not a single cure or treatment has been developed from the research Murray is collecting. These are sentient beings. All they know is endless suffering, and it needs to stop now. Please spread the word about Elisabeth Murray's heartless experimenting. We can't take away the years of trauma and suffering these poor animals have been subjected to, but we can take action to end it now and let these beings live free for the time they have left.
