Free Armando Gutierrez: Confront Illinois' Unjust Sentencing Practices

The Issue

My name is Armando Gutierrez. I'm seeking help and support because I believe I was wrongly convicted and sentenced to 60 years in prison. My rights were violated from the start, including an illegal detention and interrogation without a lawyer. I was high on PCP during the incident and don't remember what happened. My lawyer advised me to use a self-defense strategy, but I think this was a mistake. The judge used my criminal history, including cases I didn't commit, to determine my sentence. I believe my sentence is unconstitutional due to Illinois' truth in sentencing guidelines. I’ve been incarcerated for 24 years and I still have not received any justice to date. So I’m reaching out in a last ditch effort to all of the friends and family members of anyone who has or ever had a loved one incarcerated in the hopes that you will come to my support in an upcoming resentencing on September 4, 2024 as all of you are the members of society that our Justice System claims to protect when they unjustly sentence us to DeFacto life sentences using “SOCIETY” as their reason to bury us in prison for the rest of our lives. If you feel and plead that I deserve a 2nd chance, then I’m asking you to come to my aid and sign this petition asking this judge in your own words to release me as you are a member of society and you demand justice in the form of my release.
