I'm Afghan Hazara, and this is just some info of the horrible situation in Afghanistan...

Some of my family lives in Afghanistan, and there are absolutely no rights for the poor young girls and women there, ever since the Taliban took over. What happened, where did freedom go to? They stopped letting girls over grade 6 go to school,  stopped letting them see male doctors, not allowing women to leave the house without a burka, are not letting women speak in public, and not allowed to leave the house without a male. This is just messed up...

Not only this, but when women are cooped up inside their homes, stripped from their freedom and joy of being outside, they are likely being domestically/sexually abused inside their homes. They are not safe anywhere, not outside, not inside.

The Taliban's oppressive regime has systematically dismantled the progress made over the past two decades in terms of women's rights and gender equality in Afghanistan. According to Human Rights Watch, restrictions imposed by the Taliban have rolled back women's rights to levels previously unseen in this century. The American University of Afghanistan reports that the number of girls attending school has plummeted dramatically, with the lack of internet access further isolating Afghan women from the global community and hindering their opportunities for education, employment, and self-expression.

The ability for women to assume roles in society beyond the confines of their homes is essential not only for their personal freedom but for the prosperity and development of the entire nation. When women are denied the right to speak freely, access education, and contribute to society, the whole country suffers. As stated by the United Nations, women's empowerment is critical to achieving sustainable development and global peace.

We demand that the international community, including influential nations and organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank, put pressure on the Taliban to restore the rights of Afghan women and girls.

Our Explicit Demands to Our Chosen Decision Makers:

To Volker Türk (UN High Commissioner for Human Rights): We demand that the UN formally declare the Taliban’s actions as gender apartheid under international law and launch a mechanism to prosecute these crimes.

To Sima Bahous (UN Women): We call on UN Women to expand emergency funding to grassroots, female-led underground organizations and completely exclude Taliban officials from international forums.

To Senator Penny Wong (Foreign Minister): We demand that the government maintains strict economic and diplomatic sanctions against the Taliban and refuses any form of political recognition.

To Tony Burke (Minister for Home Affairs): We demand the creation of an emergency humanitarian visa pathway specifically dedicated to fast-tracking asylum for Afghan women, girls, and activists.

To Samantha Power (USAID): We demand that international aid is strictly conditioned to bypass Taliban control and is routed directly to NGOs funding secret schools and safe houses.
