The Issue
My name is Reyann Abdi, and I am a wife and mother living in Harrisburg, PA. For the past seventeen years, I have shared my life with my husband, Abdullahi J Abdi, a devoted husband and father. We have journeyed together for over 17 years, building our lives around the love we share and the home we've created for our two beautiful children, ages 16 and 5. Abdullahi has been in the United States for over three decades. He came here as a refugee at the young age of 8 alongside his mother and 10-year-old sister.
In recent months, our lives have been turned upside down. Abdullahi was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on March 11, 2026, and our family has been struggling every day since. Financially, emotionally, and socially, we are in distress. Without Abdullahi, we've lost our main source of income and with it, the medical coverage that sustains our family. Our 16-year-old has had to deal with this trauma, all while facing the typical challenges of adolescence, and our young child misses his father dearly.
Abdullahi has no major criminal history and has consistently been a positive contributor to our community. He has worked hard to provide for all of us, and his absence has left not only a vacuum in our household but a noticeable gap in the community fabric.
Statistics show that family separation caused by detention has lasting adverse impacts on children, leading to emotional instability and developmental challenges. We cannot let this go on. Families deserve to stay together; children deserve to grow up with their parents nearby. Abdullahi belongs here—home with us, creating memories and building dreams together.
