Abolish the Cruel 24 Hour Cat Curfew

The issue

Calling all animal lovers...Please help our furry friends...

Councils across Melbourne are proposing 24-hour cat curfews and changed dog restrictions.

Imagine not being allowed to breathe fresh air, enjoy the sunshine, feel the wind again, run, climb and explore, plus socialise with other animals.

We all know what it's like to be locked up 24/7 with covid and now the council want to do this to cats and change/add restrictions for dogs.

not only is this cruel to the animals to be suddenly being locked inside and NEVER allowed out again, EVER!... but can you imagine the cost involved to try to create something to stop cats from leaving your property? the ongoing costs and the stench of litter, litter safety and management issues for those who have small children?

I fear many cats may end up in animal shelters and ultimately be killed.

Frankston Council Quote:

"In May 2021, Council conducted extensive community consultation around the Municipality, which resulted in over 750 responses"

750!?? out of one hundred and thirty-four thousand (134k) residences!

would YOU call that 'extensive'?

As paid registered cat owner with the Frankston council, and previous registered dog owner, a person who this law would actually affect I was neither consulted nor aware of this proposed order. A phone call or letter to all registered animal owners should have been standard practice.

I can see councils all over Victoria have made these decisions with little or no consultation to the greater public during a time where most people are struggling financially, physically and emotionally due to covid.

Meanwhile, councils fail to manage the basics for ratepayers.

Please fight for our furry friends by signing the petition to oppose the cruel 24-hour cat curfew and restrictions on our pets and send a message to councils loud and clear.

**I will make this petition available to others fighting their councils, please contact me to add your council.
