The Issue

LAUSD Board member Rocío Rivas: We Demand You Deliver on Your Promise to Franklin High School

Franklin High School is more than 100 years old. Generations of students have walked these halls, represented this school and contributed to our community.

Yet Franklin continues to be overlooked while surrounding schools receive new and upgraded athletic facilities.

We are asking LAUSD and the LAUSD Board of Education to finally invest in Franklin High School.

SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER ROCÍO RIVAS MADE A PROMISE. NOW WE DEMAND THAT SHE DELIVER.

Rocío Rivas promised Franklin High School a new football field.

The Franklin community has waited. We have been patient. We have continued to advocate.

But the promised field has not been delivered.

Meanwhile, athletic facility upgrades continue to happen at other schools throughout the area.

WHY NOT FRANKLIN?

We are calling directly on Board Member Rocío Rivas:

YOU PROMISED US A NEW FRANKLIN FOOTBALL FIELD.

NOW WE DEMAND THAT YOU DELIVER ON THAT PROMISE.

Franklin students should not have to keep waiting while other schools receive the facilities they deserve.

THIS IS ABOUT EVERY FRANKLIN ATHLETE

This isn’t just about football.

A new athletic complex would benefit students participating in:

 ● 🏈 Football

 ● ⚽ Boys & Girls Soccer

 ● 🏃 Track & Field

 ● 🏳️ Flag Football

 ● 🥎 Softball

 ● ⚾ Baseball

 ● 📣 Cheer

 ● And other Franklin athletic programs and student activities

Every Franklin student deserves access to safe, modern and properly maintained facilities.

FRANKLIN FOOTBALL DESERVES A FIELD THAT IS READY FOR STUDENTS

Over the last several years, Franklin’s football program has experienced delays and disruptions because of problems with the athletic field and the district’s maintenance of the facility.

Most recently, the condition of the field has once again affected the football season.

This is unacceptable.

Our student-athletes spend countless hours practicing, competing and representing Franklin High School.

They deserve a field that is safe, maintained and ready for them.

🥎 FRANKLIN SOFTBALL NEEDS A DEDICATED FIELD

Franklin’s softball team also deserves a dedicated home field.

Every year, softball has had to use the football field, adding additional wear and tear to a facility already struggling with maintenance.

Our athletes should not have to compete against one another for adequate facilities.

There have been plans discussed to create a dedicated softball field near the existing baseball field and relocate the tennis courts to their original location.

If plans already exist to improve the athletic facilities, why aren’t we moving forward?

Let’s make better use of the space Franklin already has and create an athletic complex that works for all of our students.

🏃 OUR TRACK ATHLETES DESERVE A REAL TRACK

Franklin’s track athletes should not have to wait for the football field to be lined or rely on temporary arrangements just to practice and compete.

A proper, modern track and field facility would give our athletes a dedicated place to train and compete.

Our students deserve better than temporary solutions.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Franklin High School is a historic institution in Northeast Los Angeles.

Our students deserve the same investment, care and opportunities being provided to students at surrounding schools.

We are not asking for special treatment.

WE ARE DEMANDING EQUAL TREATMENT.

If LAUSD can invest in new football fields, tracks and athletic facilities at other schools, Franklin High School should not continue to be left behind.

📢 OUR DEMANDS

We are calling on LAUSD Board Member Rocío Rivas, the LAUSD Board of Education and district leadership to:

1. DELIVER ON THE PROMISE OF A NEW FRANKLIN FOOTBALL FIELD.

2. Build a state-of-the-art football field and track for Franklin High School.

3. Create a dedicated softball field.

4. Move forward with existing plans to improve the athletic facilities and maximize the space available to Franklin students.

5. Provide safe, modern and properly maintained facilities for football, soccer, track & field, flag football, softball, baseball, cheer and other student programs.

6. Invest in Franklin High School with the same urgency and commitment being shown at other schools throughout the district.
