Retire the Little Rock Zoo Elephants to a Sanctuary

The Issue

The elephants captive in the Little Rock Zoo are visibly wasting away. They need your help to finally retire from their tiny cages to the open expanses of an elephant sanctuary, where they can live their final years in peace and nature.

Elephants at the Little Rock Zoo include a trio of elderly females; Zina, born in 1961; Sophie, born in 1969; and Babe, born in 1975. They are Asian elephants, and all performed for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

If you've been to the Little Rock Zoo, you will have seen the sad look in the elephants eyes as they sway back in forth, having nowhere to go. There are more bars than space to roam around in their enclosure.

These elephants are elderly and have never experienced freedom, going from a circus to the bars of a zoo. At the very least we need to raise awareness of their suffering and find a place for them to live and roam freely.

It's time for the Little Rock Zoo to accept that they do not have the land to house elephants and they never will.

Out of compassion for these gentle giants who have suffered their entire lives for the sake the public and for Little Rock, let them retire and live freely in an elephant sanctuary.
