Oranges and Golf Balls The ratings for A&E continue to tumble. Just this week, "Duck Dynasty" received a 1.2 rating with 3.3 million viewers. To put that in comparison, "The Glades" season four finale had a 0.9 rating with 3.4 million viewers. Funny how it seems their star player is now in the same ratings category as "The Glades". All you have to do is watch A&E's Facebook page when they make a post and watch the comments. More often than not, when they make a post regarding a reality show, there are a significant amount of negative comments. Is this the true change David McKillop envisioned? Lower ratings and nothing but reality shows are the product of his programming direction. Further investigation shows that Mr. McKillop is the Executive Producer for a vast number of the reality shows currently airing on A&E. Whether that is a function of his position, or whether he has a direct hand in their production, doesn't really matter. It appears that his very involved programming decisions are not yielding very good results for A&E. I do wonder what the advertisers think of all this? It's not unusual for a cable network to produce their programming in-house, but I don't see any of them producing so much in-house content they ignore quality programming elsewhere. Even pay cable stations such as HBO produce their own programming, but this does not make up a vast majority of their airplay. A&E should be renamed "Reality TV & Rerun Network" just so viewers know what they are getting themselves into. This leads me to my update title. Just a few days ago, Clifton Campbell (@CCinnuendo on Twitter) let his followers know he was in New York City and wondered if he should stop by Mr. McKillop's office to see how the oranges and golf balls were doing some viewers sent. I don't know about the rest of you, but it is encouraging to see "The Glades" executive producer still actively engaging viewers a year after the show's cancellation. This tells me that despite long odds, I don't think he's given up hope for a return. And neither should we. A Call to Action: A couple of weeks ago, I asked all of you to send an email to A&E with your thoughts on the cancellation of "The Glades". Now, I honestly don't know whether we were the only ones to fill it up, but as of a few days ago, no email could be sent to their feedback address because it was full!! Perhaps it was a combination of their bad reality shows, the uncertainty of "Longmire" after it ended in a cliffhanger too, and all of YOU making your voices heard. It is clear A&E is receiving feedback, whether it is what they wanted to hear or not. Today, I ask you to take this a step further. I'd like each person who receives this to send either golf balls, or oranges to Ms. Abbe Raven, Chairman of A+E Networks. She is the person ultimately responsible for all their networks, including their flagship A&E. Her address can be found below. I would also encourage you to write a short note on your thoughts about the cancellation. Be respectful, but firm in your comments. We won't win any battles using vulgar or offensive language. I honestly don't think Mr. McKillop cares one way or another about the viewers, so it is time to solicit a higher authority. Ms. Abbe Raven Chairman, A+E Networks 235 E 45th Street New York, NY 10017 Thank you all for your continued particiation and let's not give up.
