My name is Alexander J Rivera Jr., an independent Baptist Christian church believer from Enid, OK, and the son of a pastor. I am a freshman student dealing with a distressing situation. Every day, I sit in my history and science classes where I am taught about the theory of evolution and the big bang - concepts that directly challenge my religious beliefs. My objections against these scientific theories have been met with reproach, disregarding my personal faith and cultural background.

In our diverse society, the views of all members of the community should be treated with equality and respect. This includes the classroom, where teachings that may contradict deeply held beliefs are presented without presenting alternative perspectives influenced by social, cultural, and religious constructs prevalent in our world.

Many educators and policymakers assert that exploring these alternative perspectives promotes cultural competence, an essential skill in today's globalized world. Including these perspectives fosters texture and diversity of thought, pushing students to critically engage with different viewpoints (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, 2005). Furthermore, education should be a neutral space that promotes open-mindedness, not a platform that imposes a singular world-view, especially in sensitive topics related to existence that remain open to interpretation.

Therefore, we propose a revamp of the science and history curriculum in Enid, OK schools, requiring that they provide alternate perspectives in line with different cultural religions and beliefs. In doing so, we aim to create a respectful and inclusive learning environment for all students, regardless of their faith.

Education is a fundamental right, and it should provide an environment where all students feel respected and heard.
