The Issue

Stratford Skatepark, a stone’s throw from the invaluable Lido, has served the Stroud community for nearly two decades. However, it is now outdated, increasingly rough-surfaced and no longer meets the needs of its growing and diverse user base.

A 2025-26 asset audit and feasibility study found the park’s design is dated, congested, and approaching the end of its serviceable life, with the surrounding tarmac perimeter already beyond safe use. As a result, beginners are pushed into unsafe areas, while experienced users struggle with flow, increasing the risk of collisions and injury.

Friends of Stroud Skateparks (FoSS) are proposing simple, cost-effective first steps:

  1. Permission from Stroud District Council (SDC) to Canvas Spaces Ltd to donate and install a professionally designed and high-quality concrete kerb obstacle at no cost to SDC. Providing a new obstacle for users that can be removed easily at any point in the future.
  2. Permission from SDC to FoSS to raise funds and donate towards improvements, including new beginner-friendly features and resurfacing of the disused permitted surrounding tarmac space.

This aligns directly with the feasibility study’s recommended short-term refurbishment option, which highlights the opportunity to expand usable space and introduce simple, accessible features to increase participation.

These improvements would:

  • Increase safety and reduce injury risk
  • Create a welcoming “beginner zone” for all ages
  • Rebuild a thriving, inclusive skatepark community
  • Maximise a well-used public space at minimal cost

FoSS is offering to fundraise and support the delivery of these improvements in partnership with SDC and the community.

Please sign this petition to support giving permissions to improve Stratford Skatepark for all. With a target of 1,200 signatures, this petition will be presented to the full Stroud District Council to show strong, collective community backing.
